Stabbing and fencing are fighting techniques which rely on keeping an ideal engagement distance between two combatants and striking with quick thrusts rather than ample swings. Once a character that knows one of the variants of this Stunt has rolled a successful attack or parry with a weapon with the Stab attribute, all attacks with the stabbing weapon against the same target have the same cost as parries until the end of the round. Attacking or defending with the weapon against another target cancels the Stunt effect against the first one, although it can transfer it to the second target if successful.

An Insight roll, or any Advantage roll on a social skill during a Conflict, will reveal that Yamagata believes what the adventurers tell him and considers them the victims of a plot, but he may still be forced to execute them to divert attention from the fact that the daimyo had been replaced with a fox. It is up to the adventurers to find a way to persuade him that they are still useful to the Takeda clan. The social Conflict may be stretched over several visitations occurring at intervals of about twelve hours, so that the player can also start thinking of a way of escaping if things start going badly and the gallows or the torture table become the likely outcome. The player characters must face the General’s WIL of 16 and his relevant Communication skill, so it is not an easy task to begin with, and they also suffer a permanent Penalty due to the troubled situation. Only if the players come up with a plausible reason why Yamagata may still need their help should the Narrator cancel this Penalty. Any positive Consequences accumulated so far are of vital importance, so the player characters will probably have to use up any reputation gains from their previous adventures.
